While packaging waste currently accounts for 36% of solid waste in EU towns, research shows that reduction is achievable by focusing on six plastic applications. Multimaterial packaging constitutes the biggest untapped potential.
That is what the EU-funded Horizon Europe R3PACK project is about! This project brings together 24 European partners from 7 different countries to innovate in order to contribute to Reduce, Reuse, and Rethink PACKaging.
This project will secure fast and extensive uptake of industrially relevant, cross-sectorial, cost-effective innovative technologies and allow immediate substitution of complex multilayer plastic packaging with high performing fiber-based packaging.
While striving to ignite change by building consumer awareness of packaging waste, this innovative project aims to develop reuse schemes to lead the transition towards sustainable plastic-free packaging.
